The 5th European Social Forum in Malmö, 17-21 September 2008 The Nordic organising committee welcomes you to Malmö, southern Sweden. Scandinavia, with its tradition of peoples’ movements, relative gender justice and a strong welfare state – all under fire from neoliberalism and corporate driven globalisation – will clearly be a new inspiring environment for the ESF.During five days there will be workshops, seminars, debates, manifestations, films, music, art – and a lot of room for strategic thinking and alliance building. Minimum 20.000 people are expected. Culture at the ESF An important part of the ESF is formed by the cultural activities - dance, exhibitions, concerts, movies, choirs, etc. Our vision is to have a highly visible forum in the city of Malmö, to have culture with a message, participative culture, and to reflect the plurality and creativity of the forum movement. And we need you to help us! * Are you an organization involved in cultural activities and wanting to organize an activity at the ESF? Then please contact us at kultur@esf2008.org and describe who you are and what you want to do. We will then get back to you with more information. * Are you an artist/poet etc. willing to perform at the ESF, or a director of a relevant documentary willing to come and show it at the ESF? Then please contact us at kultur@esf2008.org and describe who you are and what you want to do. We will then get back to you with more information.

Luonto on kuollut. Kenialaisen ohjaajan Wanuri Kahiun scifi-lyhytelokuva valittiin Sundance Film Festivalin ohjelmistoon 2010.

Nature is extinct. The outside is dead, 35 years after World War III - “The Water War”. Asha lives and works as a museum curator in one of the indoor communities set up by the Maitu Council. When she receives a box in the mail containing soil, she plants an old seed in it and the seed starts to germinate instantly. Asha appeals to the Council to grant her permission to investigate the possibility of life on the outside but the Council denies her exit visa. Asha breaks out of the inside community to go into the dead and derelict outside to plant the growing seedling and possibly find life on the outside.
